Cheers to Change: Mediar and Major Retailer Partner to Revolutionize Shelf Arrangements, Boosting Shopper Conversion by 53%

A major retailer faced challenges with the traditional “Brand Blocks” planogram, where beers were organized by brand, leading to shopper confusion and decreased conversion. The goal was to redesign the shelf layout to better align with shopper preferences and behavior, ultimately enhancing the shopping experience and increasing sales.

Objective: To transition the product distribution in the beer category from “Brand Blocks” to “Types of Beer,” improving the decision-making process for shoppers at the point of purchase.

Methodology: Existing In-Store Surveillance & Shopper Behavior Lab: The store utilized existing in-store surveillance infrastructure combined with Mediar’s Shopper Behavior Lab technology, which monitored shopper interactions with products under both the new and old planograms.

Data Analysis with Mediar’s Shopper Behavior Lab: The data captured from in-store surveillance was analyzed in real-time using Mediar’s Shopper Behavior Lab, offering deep insights into shopper movements, behaviors, and engagement. This provided a comprehensive view of how different planogram configurations impacted shopper engagement and conversion rates.

Behavioral Analysis: The Shopper Behavior Lab analyzed key metrics such as dwell time, stop power, and conversion rates, comparing the old and new planogram setups.

Results:

  • Conversion Rate: A remarkable 53% increase in conversion rates with the new planogram, reflecting more effective shopper engagement.
  • Stop Power: Despite a 28% decrease in stop power—fewer pauses at displays—overall conversion improved, suggesting that shoppers made quicker and more confident purchase decisions.
  • Sales Performance: Sales data aligned with behavioral observations, confirming a significant uplift during the test period and demonstrating the effectiveness of the new planogram.

Conclusion: The integration of Mediar’s Shopper Behavior Lab with advanced surveillance and data analytics proved invaluable in transforming shopper experiences and boosting sales. This case study highlights the power of real-time data and sophisticated analytics in designing in-store promotional strategies that resonate with consumer behavior and preferences.
